It was quite an odd thing to be Poet Laureate of the City of Wolverhampton in the middle of a global pandemic. It’s safe to say that my laureateship didn’t go quite to plan. After somebody said to me ‘What a shame, you didn’t manage to do anything.’ I thought I better try and justify my position and I went to my publishers, Offa’s Press, to ask if they’d be up for publishing a book which is part diary and part poetry in order to document the work that I did during this rather odd and disconcerting period of history. I’m delighted to say that Simon Fletcher, the man behind the press, went with the idea and supported the creation of ‘It’s Honorary, Bab’.
